"Explain how First Nations have passed on knowledge, traditions and culture over time. Support your answer using specific examples."

Hello parents and students.  Today was a shortened day due to our PLC meetings.

In class today we covered the following concepts:

First Nations 12
Vocabulary Hunt
Ulkatcho Case Study and Map (Map is due tomorrow)

Homework: finish your Ulkatcho region map for hand in tomorrow *details are listed on the photo at the bottom of today's post

English 11
Reviewed the elements of oral story telling, discussed oratory vs orature, discussed the purpose of our stories.
-Oral story work time (please have your planning section finished)

Homework: complete oral story planning sheet for tomorrow

Social Studies 10
-Short video that looked at the leaders of the rebellion in Upper Canada
-Book work- questions from the text "Trouble in Upper Canada'
-William Lyon Mackenzie persuasive article

On Monday we completed the following:
FN 12- started discussing chapter 3
-discussed barter system, and trade
-read the first 4 pages of chapter 3
- completed a drawing activity

English 11
-watched a video on communication skills
-completed a creative writing activity
- wrote stories with a hook, different sentence starters, BME

-students were introduced to two textbook reading strategies
-continued with our simulation (Upper Canada)

Today we covered the following:

-wrote a chapter 2 quiz and read up to the potlatch ceremony in our text

English 11
- started our oral story assignment
-work day

-Practiced SQRR reading strategy
-finished our simulation
-Parts D and E of project handed out due on Friday

Discussed what a stereotype is and brainstormed examples
Viewed "I'm not the Indian you had in mind" and discussed how media has made inaccurate assumptions of First Nations people
-Started the DVD Reel Injun which focuses on stereotypes of First Nations people in early Hollywood films.
